FAQ for whatcombirds and how to unsuscribe‏

Here is an occasional posting of the FAQ for whatcombirds. Please especially see that if you want to unsubscribe you can do it yourself – see below.

NOTE: Commands for subscribing and unsubscribing (as well as other listserv management commands) must be sent to listproc@lists.wwu.edu<mailto:listprocec@lists.wwu.edu> and not to the listserv address.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the Whatcom Birds Listserv? The listserv provides a place for people with an interest in local birds to inform each other of bird sightings and discuss issues relevant to local birds.

What is the Main Purpose of the Listserv? To advance our understanding of local birds and birds in general and to increase our appreciation of local birds.

What Types of Postings are Appropriate for Whatcombirds? Postings that report bird sightings, share birding experiences, and discuss issues relevant to birds are the most appropriate types of postings.

What Types of Postings are Not Appropriate for Whatcombirds? List subscribers should avoid postings that are meant for one subscriber (send them to that person’s personal e-mail), and should limit postings that are not relevant to local birds.

What About Pictures? Pictures that are no larger than 200K and contribute to the purpose of the listserv are welcomed, but please ask yourself if the picture adds something to our knowledge about Whatcom County birds before you send it. Additionally, ask whether you think most of the 260 people on the listserv will be interested in seeing your picture.

The “Digest” Command: If you are getting more e-mails from this listserv than you care to, you can use the Digest command to instruct the server to send one message that compiles all the messages sent to the listserv during a specified period (most users receive a message once a day). To do this send a message to: Listproc@lists.wwu.edu<mailto:Listproc@lists.wwu.edu>. Include the following line in the text:

set whatcombirds mail digest
