Vancouver RBA for November 2, 2013‏

Friday, November 1
A PALM WARBLER was seen on Saturna Island in the Gulf Islands.

A SWAMP SPARROW was reported on from Lakemount Road in Abbotsford.

A probable GREAT CRESTED FLYCATCHER was seen at Island 22 Park in Chilliwack, where it was first found on October 29th.

Thursday, October 31
A WESTERN MEADOWLARK and a very late BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK were seen at the Maplewood Conservation Area in North Vancouver at the west lookout by the west salt marsh. The grosbeak photo is here:http://www.flickr.com/photos/107256186@N05/10601742823/


Tuesday, October 29
8 BLACK TURNSTONES were seen at Rocky Point Park in Port Moody.

The BLUE JAY is still present between Macdonald Beach Park on Sea Island, Richmond and the Southlands Bridle Trail area on the Vancouver side of the river. Presumably it is going to stay for at least the winter given that it is gathering acorns.

800+ SURF SCOTERS, many WHITE-WINGED SCOTER, a female BLACK SCOTER, a female LONG-TAILED DUCK, and a female RUDDY DUCK were seen off of Ambleside Park in  Vancouver.

A LONG-BILLED CURLEW and a MARBLED GODWIT were present at Blackie Spit in Crescent Beach, Surrey.


Monday, October 28
A SEMIPALMATED PLOVER and 19 unidentified SWANS flying over were seen at Beach Grove Lagoon at Boundary Bay Regional Park in Tsawwassen.

A PEREGRINE FALCON was seen at 104th Ave. and 152nd St. in Surrey near the Guildford Mall.

A flock of SANDHILL CRANES were seen flying over Surrey near 148th St and 105th Ave.

A bird believed to be a white phase GYRFALCON was seen for three days at 1130 Comox Street in the west end of Vancouver, south corner of Nelson Park.


Sunday, October 27
A HORNED LARK along with 12 HORNED GREBES and a PIGEON GUILLEMOT were seen at the Iona Island South Jetty in Richmond.

3 LONG-TAILED DUCKS and a BRANDT'S CORMORANT were seen off Lighthouse Marine Park in Point Roberts.


Saturday, October 26
150 BONAPARTE'S GULLS, 50 HORNED GREBES and 15 WESTERN GREBES were seen off of Acadia Beach on the north side of Point Grey, Vancouver.

An estimated 150 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS, and 2 PEREGRINE FALCONS (1 AD, 1 JUV) were seen at the Reifel Migratory Bird Sanctuary in Delta.
