Today was quite productive on Fir Island. At the Skagit Wildlife Center (Game Range) there were two SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPERS, along with many GREATER and LESSER YELLOWLEGS and LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS. Raptors included at least five BALD EAGLES, five or more HARRIERS, several RED-TAILED HAWKS, and a MERLIN. My first NORTHERN SHRIKE of the season made its appearance. There were four PIED-BILLED GREBES, including two juveniles. SNOW GEESE numbered well into the thousands near the Hayton Preserve, with a few CACKLING GEESE mixed in. Barry Ulman
